Manage
I am a manager;
So I will manage:
The law office,
My social calendar,
My familial obligations,
My expectations.
I can manage them,
Or her, or a man of any age.
Under pressure I manage not to break
Under scrutiny I manage to keep my chin up.
I’m the one that people come to
They expect me to -
They can count on the fact that I will -
And I reassure them that I can
Find a way to manage.
Even when it feels like the world is crumbling,
When the brain fog is causing low visibility,
When the noise is deafening,
When my chest is tight,
When my heart is heavy,
When my back is aching,
When my feet are heavy,
When my hands are shaking,
I’ll find a way to manage.
Even when the money is short,
When the bills are coming due,
When the deadlines are looming,
When the inventory is low,
When the delivery is delayed,
When the staff is overworked,
When the boss is out of town,
When the I can’t see a way through,
One way or another, I will manage.
It’s what I do; as a manager.
But just because I’m skilled it,
That doesn’t mean that I enjoy it;
The obligation of finding ways to manage.
But it’s okay,
I’ll manage.
